Naturally dyed easter eggs with leaf print relief
how to dye easter eggs using onion skins and botanicals to create a relief effect
- 6 red onion skins
- 1/8 cup vinegar
- 1/2 dozen eggs - I used brown and white
- a selection botanicals - leaves, stems, petals, flower heads
- 1 pair old nylons
Choose a selection of pretty botanicals from the garden or out on a walk.
Dip the eggs into some water and stick individual leaves, flower heads and petals onto each egg
Take the old nylons and wrap around each egg tying both ends with a knot to secure
Peel the onions and place the skins in a large pot.
Cover with water and a good glug of vinegar and boil
Add the eggs and leave to bubble gently for 30 minutes
Allow to cool before removing the nylon and leaves to reveal the beautiful patina beneath
If you plan to eat these keep refrigerated until serving
