Stillness, it’s probably the thing I miss most about my life before kiddos. Pre-social media, pre-crazy working hours, pre-mobile phones… you know where this is going.
Life can be pretty chaotic these days, so finding those small moments where we can be still is important. I’m getting much better at making time for time out. A moment to savour a hot cup of tea, to watch the birds out the window; perch on a park bench and watch as my children run freely through the park; sink into my husband’s arms and listen to his heart beating. Stillness grounds us, reminds us that in and amongst all the hustle, are simple joys.
I think it’s important to teach our children this practice too. Taking moments to think, daydream or rest is part of the ebb and flow of our day as much as it is theirs. I encourage a slice of the day dedicated to snuggling, reading stories, listening to a song play out, lying on the grass and picking daisies. These moments of calm certainly help us to reboot so we can keep up with the crazy goings on the rest of the time.
