Our little bird turned 18 months a couple of weeks ago and I’m playing catch up with her monthly pics again.
After weeks of teasing us with the odd step here and there she finally decided walking was for her on her 18 month birthday and, just like that, we had ourselves a toddler. The freedom she’s gained from walking has been noticeable in her mood and in her play. She’s exploring, exploring, exploring all the time now and giggling away to herself as she stomps about this old house, proud as punch that she’s mastered life on two feet.
She’s also learning new words daily. Today she said ‘bag’ over and over as she placed little fallen golden leaves she’d collected into my handbag. She loves animals, especially birds, and takes great delight when she spots our neighbour’s black cat on the roof of our shed. She loves to feed the ducks or chase the crows across the meadow up the road.
Over the last few weeks she’s grown very attached to a little soft rabbit that was given to her by her Godmother when she was born. She likes to keep her close and asks for her at bedtime. We named her Daisy because she’d say “daaaay daaaay” when she pointed to her bunny. The last couple of days she’s been calling Daisy “bay beee” and feeding her bottles of dolly’s milk. Daisy aside, she prefers cars and trucks to anything else in the toy basket, much to the dismay of her big brother who is having a hard time with sharing right now,. She loves getting dirty, grabbing handfuls of soil from my flowerbeds and mixing them into a bucket of water before pouring the whole thing down herself.
It’s not all plain sailing these days – we’ve entered the age of the tantrum and boy can she throw one. It’s frustrating not being able to master all the things she sets her mind to and not having the ability to communicate all the things she wants to convey. I know second time around though that this stage will pass and that things will get easier, for her and for us.
Happy 18 months to my head strong little girl. I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for you.
