I had an adventure last week, I took a trip to New York City on my own to go visit my brother and to be the witness at his City Hall elopement. The word elopement once had negative connotations of couples who’d sloped off to Vegas to say I do without the approval of their parents. These days they’re a popular alternative to a large, lavish and expensive wedding. I loved how intimate their day felt; just the two of them getting ready together, taking the subway and then standing in front of each other to say their I Do’s with just me and their officiant in the room with them. It was an amazing gift to celebrate their day with them and to document it through a series of photographs. Intimate weddings and elopements are right up my street and although I don’t shoot them often, I loved the opportunity to photograph something a bit different to my usual content.
Aside from their wedding day, I shot mostly film whilst I wandered around New York and I haven’t got those scans back. This week’s diptychs are snapshots of my fleeting visit and full of good memories for me. Hoping 2019 has more adventures in store for us all xo
