I’ve always been interested in skincare, I’ve practised a pretty solid yet simple beauty routine to care for my skin since I was a teenager. Over the years my skin has changed – less oily, more inclined to feel dehydrated, less adaptable, more sensitive, less smooth and more characterful (read wrinkly). These changes are, of course, natural with age and I’m not one for beating myself up over it. I’ve learnt to embrace the changes to my body and face with a very realistic view on the ageing process – there is simply no avoiding it no matter how much serum you use or procedures you have.
Regardless of the inevitable that comes with getting older, I believe there are some simple practises we can get into the habit of that will help to take care of our skin. For example, wearing sun protection throughout the year; using balms in the cold winter months to prevent chapping; massaging your face for at least 15 minutes once a week using an organic face balm like this one and steaming off with a hot muslin cloth; and applying face oil infused with natural essential oils (I shared my personal recipe here) each night before sleep. These are all small but positive steps we can take to look after our skin better as we age.
These days my skincare routine has been paired down, not only because I have less time for ablutions but also because, over the years, I’ve found a handful of really trusted products that seem to work well for my skin type. Some of these I make myself using essential oils and others I invest in. I don’t exclusively use all natural skin care, but I’ve introduced more of it into my beauty routine in recent years.
My friend Lucy, from The Wisehouse recently sent me three of her favourite skincare products by Evolve including Evolve’s Hyalouronic Face Serum, their Daily Renew Natural Face Cream and their Radiant Glow Mask. I’ve been using these three in combination for a couple of months now and can’t speak highly enough about these products. What Evolve has done so well is source and select 100% natural ingredients that actively work into your skin. These include pure organic oils, and hyaluronic acid which soothes and hydrates the skin, holding up to 1,000 times its weight in water leaving skin plump and dewy.
The serum is lovely and light and sinks deeply into my skin before bed. I’ve been combining it with my homemade face oil and my skin feels really soft and nourished after massaging this in. I’ve been applying the daily renew cream in the morning after showering and before putting my minimal makeup on. It is so gentle and soothing and doesn’t leave an oily residue. I’ve really noticed make up stays put longer with this as a base. The mask I have to be honest, I was skeptical about as I’m not really a mask lover. I’m a total convert now having used it a few times now while soaking in the tub and it is amazing – it smells like chocolate and leaves my skin super soft and glowing. The ingredients for the mask include coconut to exfoliate, cacao powder, clay, sugar extracts and vanilla oil. The power of all natural ingredients really astounds me, Evolve have created such a beautiful range of products that don’t just smell and look lovely, they actually do what they say on the jar, reminding me once more that nature really does know best!
